A drive to big four caves

Its very unusual for us to stay at home when we have 4 day long weekend. Friday was busy doing shopping and on Saturday we set our self for a drive. We decided to head towards Granite falls, but ended up driving further to Big Four Mountains – Ice caves.

On our way, we could see snow scattered on the roads and on the trees. We went till the point where the trail starts which was a Big Four Hotel earlier but now a picnic area. This is my second visit to Ice caves during winter. The entire area and the trail is packed with thick Snow. It was absolutely beautiful! and at the same time dangerous. There are some small bridges and both the water and bridge are covered in snow. Be careful to adhere to the trail by following the foot steps.

We were not even half through when we realized the trail was blocked. It seems the water beneath had washed away one of the bridges.

Last year we went to Ice caves around the same time and we went closer to the caves. We crossed all those ‘ Extreme warning’ signs that we saw and at one point I started getting really scared of the Avalanches. We were not prepared for ice caving and we never know when the ceiling above us will collapse. I wouldn’t recommend entering these caves. We take these beautiful caves for granted. These are several tons of weight and there are many accidents reported. Read more about these caves here: http://glaciercaves.com/html/bigfou_1.htm

Still I would love to come here again in winter to see the snow field and the caves (from a distance). Everything around was snowy beautiful and you just cant take your eyes off. We had some fun making our snow-girl.
